Letter from Andrei Sannikov,
(Belarusian: Андрэй Алегавіч Саннікаў, Russian: Андрей Олегович Санников),
penal colony Nr 2, Babruisk, Belarus
"The presidential candidate thanks all heroic people who visit actions of solidarity with political prisoners.
Andrei Sannikov wrote this in a letter from penal colony Nr 2 in Babruisk:
“I was deeply impressed by the actions of solidarity on October Square. People voluntary choose police batons and jails, because only in this way one can defend one’s dignity and achieve freedom. Like other political prisoners, I admire and thank all people coming on the Square. Whole Belarus should thank them.
Throwing dignity and honour under batons can be offensive, especially now, when the authorities are in hysterics. Maybe there’s sense to wait till the hysterics ends. In the end, we are cleverer than they. We can hold protests in different forms, but not less notable or less effective.
The main thing here is not the release of political prisoners, but your honour and dignity. This must become a task for all of us,” the political prisoner says.”
