Belarus. The winner!

The guardian (Andrei Sannikov): "The Swedish Academy couldn’t have chosen a better time to give Nobel prize in literature to a Belarusian writer, nor could they have found a better person to award it to than Svetlana Alexievich. Belarus is going through the most difficult period of its history, having lived under the dictatorial rule of Alexander Lukashenko for 21 years."

She not only listens to people, but has to absorb their sufferings in order to present them with the passionate attitude of a fighter for humanity. --- In Russia they will try to claim her as one of their own at the same time as blaming the Nobel committee for being politicised and russophobic, since Alexievich recently made strong statements rejecting Russian aggression in Ukraine. In Belarus, Lukashenko will try to use the award for his own ends, forgetting the years of oblivion in her homeland to which his regime consigned Alexievich.

"Belarus. Belarus. Belarus. Ska jag ta det igen? Belarus. Uppfattat? Det ska inte vara nåt annat. I synnerhet inte från Svenska Akademien.

I åratal nu har det gjorts ihärdiga försök att befria svenskan från detta ordet ”vitrysk” med alla dess obehagliga avledningar. Vad man istället ska säga är ”belarusisk”, ”Belarus” etc. Varför då? För att det heter så, ljushuvud. Alltså: ”rus” är inte detsamma som ”Ryssland”. (”Vit” däremot kan funka för ”bel”.) Rus är en benämning på ett större historiskt område som idag omfattar stora delar av Västra Ryssland, Ukraina, Belarus och Baltikum."




- Det är stort att Svetlana Aleksievitj fick nobelpriset i litteratur. Grattis!
