I Belarus (Vitryssland) ser man en ny och starkare benägenhet att säga ifrån mot förtrycket när mängder av mänskor i går samlades på  Kalinouski (Kastrychnitskaya Square) torget för att protestera mot ett nytt orättfärdigt dekret som utfärdats gällande beskattning av bla. arbetslösa. Men man kräver också fria och rättvisa val. Många mänskor som tidigare inte vågat protestera har nu tagit sig ut till torget för fredliga protester. Och man vågar också öppet kritisera diktatorn. Polisen (KGB) har hållit en ganska låg profil.

Den mycket dåliga ekonomin i landet och EU:s sanktioner har tvingat diktatorn att lätta på en del restriktioner. Nyligen infördes femdagars visumfrihet för resenärer från ett 80-tal länder bla. EU-länder. Mänskorättssituationen har dock inte förändrats till det bättre i Belarus.

Visumfriheten och öppna gränser har inte fallit i god jord i Ryssland där Putin styr och anser sig ha en viss makt över diktatorn. Hur tänker han agera i fortsättningen? (the principle of territorial integrity).

Den belarusiska oppositionen med presidentkandidater och journalister som fängslats och torterats, har länge oförtröttligt arbetat för fria och demokratiska val, mot korruption och det partiska domstols- och polisväsendet, vädrar nu morgonluft. Vi ska hoppas att Belarus inom en kort framtid skulle vara en naturligt del av EU och det fria och demokratiska Europa.

Vad kan vi lära oss av torgprotesterna vid Maidan i Ukraina? Kanske det att EU nu i raska tag borde öppna sina gränser mot Belarus och inte lämna det förtryckta folket i ensamhet och isolering. Och utlämnade till en diktators godtyckliga och grymma styre.
