Glad första advent och välsignat nytt kyrkoår!
Sak./Zech.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
Joh. 12:15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!”
"He is just-righteous: an attribute constantly given to Messiah
(Isa 45:21; 53:11; Jer 23:5, 6) in connection with salvation. He does
not merely pardon by conniving at sin, but He justifies by becoming
the Lord our righteousness fulfiller, so that not merely mercy,
but justice, requires the justification of the sinner who by faith
becomes one with Christ. God's justice is not set aside by the sinner's
salvation, but is magnified and made honorable by it (Isa 42:1, 21).
His future reign "in righteousness," also, is especially referred to (Isa 32:1).

"Go tell it on the mountain" - The great commission
"Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:16-20 (ESV)

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time."
"There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might. Who would not fear you, O King of the nations?"
"Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears."

"Bob Fu president of CHINAaid, an international non-profit Christian human rights organization committed to promoting religious and political freedom in China, joined Glenn on Tuesday’s Glenn Beck Program to discuss his new book, God’s Double Agent: The True Story of a Chinese Christian’s Fight for Freedom, and the work he is doing to fight for freedom in the face of persecution. In Christ all things hold together
WELS Devotion November 26, 2013
"In speaking about Jesus Christ, the apostle Paul had this to say: “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
[God the Father] has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Colossians 1:13-20
Christ is Your Glue
"Your body is made up of 100 trillion microscopic things called “cells.” Cells are the basic unit of life, the foundation of every living thing. And the glue that literally holds those 100 trillion cells together is called laminin. Laminins are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of your body to the next cell. Without laminins, you would literally fall apart. The coolest thing about laminins is what they look like. The glue that holds you together, the foundation upon which your body is built, comes in the shape of a cross.
In speaking about Jesus Christ, the apostle Paul had this to say: “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Cross-shaped laminins literally hold your body together, and the eternal life that Jesus Christ purchased for you when he died on the cross in your place is the foundation of your faith, the glue that holds your entire life together. No longer do you need to worry about where you will spend eternity—Jesus has made things peaceful between you and God now and forever. Jesus has freed you from being a slave to sin and now empowers you to say “no” to its temptations. And when we fail to say “no” to sin, Jesus is ready with his forgiveness to lift us back up and empower us to live as his children.
There is no need to worry about your life now or ever because Jesus, both true God and true man, is not only your Savior, but also your King. He is in control of your life. He is going to hold you together in every way."
Prayer:
Christ my King, I know you will never let me down. You will hold my life together in every way. When I forget about that, forgive me. And then lead me through the precious promises of your Word to trust that with you holding me together I can handle anything now and forever. Amen.

"In the morning about 10 prison guards would come to my cell, stretch my limbs and insert a rubber truncheon into my anus.
"In the evenings, they would pour chlorinated water on my clothes and leave me in a room with a broken window. During the night every hour a loud bell would ring, making it impossible to sleep."

Domsöndag - Jesu gärning, mitt försvar - Jesus' saving merit - we will not fear
"Though Satan’s wrath beset our path
And worldly scorn assail us,
While Thou art near, we will not fear;
Thy strength will never fail us.
Thy rod and staff shall keep us safe
And guide our steps forever;
Nor shades of death nor hell beneath
Our souls from Thee will sever. "

The word of the truth, the gospel - Joy and comfort
Memorial Moment. Often and more.
"Our Father has transferred us from the domain of the devil into the kingdom of the Son that He loves. He hasn't just snatched us out of the mud and mire of our own sin. He hasn't just rescued us out of the hand of Satan. He hasn't just pointed us toward the heavenly kingdom. Through the new life of baptism He has transferred us to the most exalted position! He has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son whom He loves. All that belongs to that Son in His kingdom is ours if we are transferred into it. His blood and righteousness is the cause of it. Father and Son working in perfect harmony to bring us into redemption, which is the forgiveness of sins. We need to hear that ever and again."
OFTEN AND MORE
"If we will listen, the gospel is effusive in its description and delivery of God's grace. God knows we are easily knocked off the confidence we ought to have in His grace and mercy. We are inclined to despair. Every human problem, every conflict, and every trouble we experience causes us to doubt that God is still caring for us and giving us His grace in Christ. God knows our weakness better than we ourselves. This is why Scripture, as God's speech, paints the boldest possible picture of God's work in Christ to save poor sinners like us. We are like a small child, who has suffered a blow both to his body and his dignity, who with many words and much comforting must be calmed by a loving parent. Only with inordinate love and petting will the child be calmed. Sometimes the love and care given to a small child who was injured, perhaps not greatly, looks and sounds silly and childish to others. But for both parent and child it is just what is needed to put right a little scrape and wounded spirit.
We always need that kind of care from our Father because we are surrounded by so many and great dangers. This is not just a little scrape. Satan is prowling about seeking whom he may devour. We are being hunted to death by an unseen foe. What could be more terrifying than that? But our Father knows this better than we ourselves. He wants to comfort us, strengthen us, rescue us, and be with us. Because we so easily fear for our salvation He repeats salvation's story again and again as the life of Christ is proclaimed to us and for us.
St. Paul's letter to the Colossians is full of this radically effusive gospel. Sometimes Bible scholars consider it so completely over the top they think it impossible that Paul should have written it. But such people do not understand the power of sin and Satan, nor the mercy of God. They believe that sin is just a little scrape that is easily taken care of, even by us. Then the gospel could be just a little something and Paul will sound like a parent comforting a small child: completely over the top. Our Father has transferred us from the domain of the devil into the kingdom of the Son that He loves. He hasn't just snatched us out of the mud and mire of our own sin. He hasn't just rescued us out of the hand of Satan. He hasn't just pointed us toward the heavenly kingdom. Through the new life of baptism He has transferred us to the most exalted position! Father and Son working in perfect harmony to bring us into redemption, which is the forgiveness of sins. We need to hear that ever and again. Colossians 1:9-20 (ESV)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+1%3A9-20&version=ESV
John Chrysostom:
"'He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.' (Col 1:13-15). The whole work is Christ's, the giving both of rescue and transference. There is no achievement of ours. 'From the domain of darkness,' he said, that is, from error and the dominion of the devil. He said not 'darkness,' but 'domain of darkness;' for it had great power over us, and held us fast. For it is grievous indeed even to be under the devil at all, but to be so 'with power,' this is far more dreadful. 'And transferred us,' he said, 'into the kingdom of His beloved Son.' He delivered us not only from darkness, but He also showed His love toward us. A great thing indeed is it to have delivered even from darkness; but to have been brought into a kingdom also, is a far greater thing. See then how manifold the gift; that He has delivered us who lay in the pit. In the second place, He has not only delivered us, but also has translated us into a kingdom.
"'Who delivered us.' He did not say that He has sent us forth, but 'delivered': showing our great misery, and its control over us. Then to show also the ease with which the power of God works, he said, 'And transferred us,' just as if one were to lead a soldier from one position to another. And he did not say, 'led over'; nor even 'transposed,' for so the whole would be of him who transposed, nothing of him who went over; but he said, 'transferred;' so that it is both of us and of Him.
"'To the kingdom of his beloved Son.' He did not simply say, 'the kingdom of heaven,' but gave a dignity to his speech by saying, 'The kingdom of His beloved Son,' for no praise can be greater than this, as he said elsewhere: 'If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.' (2Ti 2:12). He has counted us worthy of the same things with the Son; and not only so, but what gives it greater force, with His Beloved Son. Those who were enemies, those who were in darkness, as it were suddenly he had transferred to where the Son is, to the same honor with Him. Nor was He content only with this. In order to show the greatness of the gift; he was not content with saying, 'kingdom,' but he also added, 'of the Son.' He also added 'beloved.' Nor was he satisfied with this, but he added, the dignity of His nature. For what did he say? 'Who is the image of the invisible God.' But he proceeded not to say this immediately, but meanwhile inserted the benefit which He bestowed upon us. For lest, when you hear that the whole belongs to the Father, you might suppose the Son is excluded, he ascribes the whole to the Son, and the whole to the Father. For He indeed translated us, but the Son furnished the cause. For what did he say? He 'who delivered us out of the domain of darkness' is the one, 'in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.' For if we had not been forgiven our sins, we could not have been 'translated.' So here again the words, 'In whom.'"
John Chrysostom
Homilies on Colossians, 2
Prayer:
Dear heavenly father, You have delivered us from the domain of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of Your beloved Son. Continue to proclaim to us through Your called servants that great gospel, which both tells us of our transference into Christ's kingdom and establishes us in that kingdom. Keep us from despair and other great shame and vice. Bring us the last to the full enjoyment of that which You have given us in the gospel. Amen.

Prayer bulletin:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time."
Phil. 2:5-11 (ESV)
"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Fil. 2:5-11
Kristna i Sri Lanka utsätts ofta för attacker
SRI LANKA

In Belarus it is possible to totally disappear (beware of the KGB)
Charter 97. Minsk residents reminded about disappeared politicians:
"Leaflets with information about the disappeared Belarusian politicians were spread in the Minsk metro.
Young Christian Democrats carried out an action to pay tribute to the memory of the disappeared politicians and journalists, Lukashenka opponents Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Dzmitry Zavadski. Their cases may be closed soon due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
The leaflet say that “the disappearance of Lukashenka's opponents is a crime without the statute of limitations”, the press service of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party reports."

Söndagsskola i dag:

God's mercy - Clean
Job 14:1-6, Jeremiah 29:1-19, Matthew 26:36-56
"In His death, Jesus puts to death all our sin and uncleanness. In His resurrection, He rises, having thrown off that sin and death which makes us unclean. In Holy Baptism, He puts to death in you that which is unclean and by water and the Spirit and the Word brings forth a new creation that is clean. In His Supper, Jesus takes His pure and clean flesh and blood and puts them into you so that you are cleansed and purified by His forgiveness."
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one! (Job 14:4)
"In the Name of Jesus. Amen. Job's cry is true of sinners. We are unclean because of our sins. Thoughts. Words. Deeds. Turned from God. Loveless toward our neighbor. How do we fix that? How do we take ourselves who are unclean and bring something clean and pure out of it? We don't. We can't. Many would like to think sin is just a mild defect that can easily be buffed out or shined up. But sin is a ruining, a corruption, a destruction of that image we once had from God.
So Job's own words condemn him. And us. And all sinners. But there IS someone who can bring the clean out of the unclean. That's Jesus, who takes us in our sin and raises us to life by His death and resurrection.
In His death, Jesus puts to death all our sin and uncleanness. In His resurrection, He rises, having thrown off that sin and death which makes us unclean. In Holy Baptism, He puts to death in you that which is unclean and by water and the Spirit and the Word brings forth a new creation that is clean. In His Supper, Jesus takes His pure and clean flesh and blood and puts them into you so that you are cleansed and purified by His forgiveness.
Those false preachers and prophets we've been hearing about this week always give themselves away by thinking they can bring something clean out of something unclean. All they really do is tell people how to try to clean themselves up and cover their uncleanness. It's like whitewashing a tomb. You can paint it but it's still a tomb full of old bones. So their preaching doesn't do anything but fool people into thinking they're clean when they're still filthy in their sins.
But Jesus does what Job and none of us can. He makes out of us something clean. That's the power of the blood and water which flows from Jesus' side and makes you clean by the forgiveness of sins. In the Name of Jesus. Amen.
Today Your mercy calls us To wash away our sin. However great our trespass, Whatever we have been, However long from mercy Our hearts have turned away, Your precious blood can wash us And make us clean today."

Heaven opened
Memorial Moment/Rev. Dr Scott Murray
"God is with us and acts for those who wait for Him. He does not wait for our invitation for it will never come. He acts for us. Heaven is opened."
HEAVEN OPENED
"God has condescended to become Man, without giving up His full divinity. He is and remains fully human; man born of the Virgin Mary. He is and remains fully divine; God eternally begotten of His Father. The highest height has come down to the lowest status. This adoption of our human nature and the humiliation entailed in it, according to human reason is both impossible and unthinkable. That the Christ should be both God of God, seated at the right hand of the Father, and Man of Mary, seated in the presence of sinners and persecutors is a clash of the worlds, like the immovable object met by the unstoppable force. Unfathomable! How do we take this and fit it into our limited and perverted minds?
We humans take divinity and humanity and place them in a zero-sum matrix, in which by being human, divinity is diminished and by being fully divine, humanity is undone. But what makes us think that God is limited by our false either-or conceptions. Our heavenly Father is hardly constrained by our shockingly limited preconceptions about what is possible or impossible. The God whom we tell what He can do could hardly be God. The incarnation of the Son of God of the Virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit is one of those things that no one could have conceived in His own mind. Isaiah summarizes this human incapacity and ever-expanding shock at the divine self-revelation. "No one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him" (Is 64:4).
We have also attempted to pack God off into His own sphere, shoving Him into heaven; the realm of saints and angels. We would like to lock Him away in a realm disconnected from our actual situation; way out there in heaven, à la Zwingli. By limiting God to His own place far from us we are protecting ourselves from the dangerous things that God will do if He actually comes among us. We are limiting Him to the crack in the rock and we are placing our hands over our own eyes to keep us from seeing Him in the gloriously humble incarnation of His Son. In our cowardly reversal of His gracious self-disclosure to Moses on Sinai we desire to keep Him hidden from our view (Ex 33:18-23). He is not stuck in heaven but the angels must descend and ascend so that they might see Him in both His natures, as the human and divine Person.
Our own unfaith is threatened by God's condescension in Christ. For the God who is nearby refuses to be packed off to unseen realms. It is one thing to ignore children and entirely another to ignore your own child. The Child born of Mary is not a generic child, but is the divine and human Person who confronts our sin, calls us to repentance, and redeems us by His own bloody sacrifice. He is God's own child, as we have become through Him (1Jn 3:1-2). He comes by cracking heaven open, breaking down the barriers we have erected between Himself and us. He won't allow us to exile Him to heaven. What a blessed sight is given us that we shall see heaven opened and the angels ascending and descending to look upon what has been granted to us. The divine fullness is ours unless in unfaith we close our eyes to it and demand that God retreat into heaven. No, God is with us and acts for those who wait for Him. He does not wait for our invitation for it will never come. He acts for us. Heaven is opened."

John 1:43-51 (ESV)

Martin Luther:
"'And Jesus said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."' (Jn 1:51). What is this ascent and descent? I reply that it is this very mystery that in one and the same Person there is true GOD and man. Accordingly the unity of the Person fulfills this mystery. And we, who believe, fulfill the Word of Christ: 'You will see...the angels...ascending and descending' (Jn 1:51). For we believe in the one Lord, His only-begotten Son, born of the Virgin Mary, true God and man. This mystery is so great, so grand, so inexpressible, that the angels themselves cannot marvel at it enough, much less comprehend it. But, as is stated in 1Pt 1:12, these are 'things into which angels long to look.' For angels cannot rejoice and marvel enough at that inexpressible union and unity of the most diverse natures which they do not reach either by ascending or by descending. If they lift up their eyes, they see the incomprehensible majesty of God above them. If they look down, they see God and the Divine Majesty subjected to demons and to every creature.
"These are marvelous things: to see a man and the lowliest creature humbled below all, to see the same creature sitting at the right hand of the Father and raised above all the angels, and to see Him in the bosom of the Father and soon subjected to the devil, as is stated in Ps 8:5: 'You have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings.' Likewise in Eph 4:9: 'He had also descended into the lower parts of the earth.' This is a wonderful ascent and descent of the angels, to see the highest and the lowest completely united in one and the same Person, the highest God lying in the manger. Therefore the angels adore Him there, rejoice, and sing: 'Glory to God in the highest' (Lk 2:14). On the other hand, when they consider the lowliness of the human nature, they descend and sing: 'And on earth peace.'
"When we see the same thing in the life to come, we, too, shall feel and speak far differently from the way we feel and speak now. For now these are things such as the angels do not comprehend. Nor can they be satisfied. Indeed, they always desire to look into this inexpressible goodness, wisdom, kindness, and mercy poured out upon us when that Person, who is the highest and is terrible in His majesty above all creatures, becomes the lowest and most despised. We shall see this wondrous spectacle in that life, and it will be the constant joy of the blessed, just as it is the one desire and joy of the angels to see the Lord of all, who is the same as nothing, that is, the lowest."
Lectures on Genesis 28.12-14
Prayer:
O eternal, merciful God, You have spoken through Your own dear Son, saying that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few and that we should ask You, the Lord of the harvest, to send laborers into Your harvest. Hear now our prayer on behalf of all pastors whom You have ordained to be your ministers in the church. Strengthen them mightily to take up the Word of truth and faithfully to administer Your holy sacraments. Make their labors fruitful and, when the day of their labor has ended, grant them to come with rejoicing before Your presence to receive with all the saints eternal salvation. Amen.

"Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope," 1 Tim. 1:1
Rom. 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
Eph. 2:8-10 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
John 6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day."

TANZANIA
Pastor Nzumbi leder församlingen Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania i Geita.

A prayer (WELS)
Dear Lord God Heavenly Father,
Watch over the people of the Philippines who have suffered great loss due to the recent typhoon. Bless the medical and relief efforts so that lives may be spared, families reunited, and homes and businesses rebuilt. We know that disasters in this world are the result of sin and a sign that we are living in the end times. As we await Christ's return, we pray that the Gospel would be proclaimed throughout the world so that people affected by these disasters would find comfort, hope and encouragement in the promises of God and the arms of the Savior. Turn hearts to Jesus as the one true source of peace and security in a sin troubled world. Amen.
