Flykten till Egypten

Matt. 2:13-18 Folkbibeln

"När de visa männen hade farit, se, då visade sig en Herrens ängel i en dröm för Josef och sade: "Stig upp och ta med dig barnet och dess mor och fly till Egypten och stanna där tills jag säger till dig, ty Herodes kommer att söka efter barnet för att döda det." Josef steg då upp och tog om natten med sig barnet och dess mor och begav sig till Egypten. Där stannade han tills Herodes hade dött, för att det skulle uppfyllas som Herren hade sagt genom profeten: Ut ur Egypten kallade jag min son.

Herodes barnamord

När Herodes såg att han hade blivit vilseledd av de visa männen, blev han ursinnig, och han lät döda alla de pojkar i Betlehem och hela dess omgivning som var två år och därunder, detta enligt den tid som han noga tagit reda på av de visa männen. Då uppfylldes det som var sagt genom profeten Jeremia: Ett rop hördes i Rama, gråt och högljudd klagan: Rakel sörjde sina barn, och hon ville inte låta trösta sig, eftersom de inte längre fanns till."



The Flight to Egypt

"Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Herod Kills the Children

Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:

“A voice was heard in Ramah,
    weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
    she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.”
