"16 December 2015 was going to be a busy day for Nguyen Van Dai. That morning, he was preparing to meet representatives from the EU to discuss human rights issues in his home country of Vietnam.
Nguyen Van Dai’s work was not without its dangers: just ten days earlier he had been severely beaten by the police after attending a human rights conference. The attack culminated with them putting him on a motorbike, beating him some more, and pushing him into the sea."

You’re also letting the Vietnamese authorities know that the eyes of the world are on Dai, even before his trial. We want to stop the sentence or at least make sure it’s the shortest possible."
