Mobb hotade pastors hem i Sri Lanka


SRI LANKA

"En mobb där flera munkar var med omringade den 18 mars det hus där en kristen pastor bor i Weeraketiya och genomförde en demonstration, berättar lokala källor. Mobben hade tänt eld på bildäck som lagts ut runt omkring huset och ropade glåpord till dem som var därinne. Det är ännu oklart om pastorn var hemma vid detta tillfälle.

I december i fjol hade en stor folkhop med många buddistiska munkar stormat Jeevalokaya Sabhawas område där en kristen församling hade samlats till gudstjänst. Sri Lankas nationella evangelikala allians uppgav då att mobben hade åstadkommit stor förödelse både inne i byggnaden där möbler och utrustning skadats och utanför där församlingsmedlemmarnas bilar stod parkerade. Också pastorn skadades vid attacken. Dagen innan hade en grupp buddistmunkar och lekmän besökt pastorn och sagt till honom att han inte får genomföra kristna gudstjänster i Weeraketiya utan tillstånd från den buddistiska ledningen. När pastorn informerade munkarna att han helt enkelt utövar sin grundlagsenliga rätt att praktisera sin religion, sade munkarna till honom att lagen nu har ändrats. Munkarna hade gett honom ett ultimatum att antingen upphöra med församlingen eller så kommer de att förstöra byggnaden.

Nyligen rapporterades det att också moskéer har attackerats av oidentifierade grupper.
Den 15 mars stormade en grupp munkar ett hus i Nawala och hotade invånarna på grund av påståenden att de höll på med oetiska religiösa konversationer. Munkarna, som hade kopplingar till organisationen Sinhala Ravaya, stöddes av en mobb när de stormade huset i Nawala. Mobben tog sig in i husets olika rum för att ”undersöka” beskyllningarna mot familjen. Några ur mobben förgrep sig också på hustrun i huset inför deras lilla barn, något som ett privat tv-kamerateam fångade på film."

But they will never get this from me."

Den brända markens hemlighet


"Det berättas om en svensk emigrantfamilj som för ca 150 år sedan emigrerade till Amerika. De råkade ut för en till synes hopplös situation. Den tungt lastade vagnen med familjen och alla ägodelar befann sig ute på prärien när man plötsligt upptäcker en enorm präriebrand. Vinde blåser mot vagnen och elden närmar sig snabbt. Ett av barnen ropar till pappa: ”Dör vi nu?” Pappan svarar: ”Nej, det finns en lösning.” Så tänder han en eld bakom vagnen och när det har brunnit tillräckligt backar han vagnen och familjen in på den brända marken. ”Nu är vi trygga”, säger han.

Påskens budskap handlar om hur Guds vrede över synden drabbar vår frälsare Jesus. Sedan syndens eld drabbat honom är Golgata kors den brända marken där vi får söka trygghet inför den yttersta domen. Genom Jesu uppståndelse visar Gud att den brända marken nu är försoningens plats och att alla människor inbjuds att där söka sin tillflykt. Låt oss alla ta vara på denna möjlighet denna påskhelg."

The secret of the burned earth

"There is a story about a Swedish immigrant family that came to America some 150 years ago. They where caught in a situation that seemed desperately hopeless. The heavily loaded coach with all the belongings of the family was way on the prairie when they saw a vast prairie fire. The wind blew against the coach and the fire was rapidly coming closer. One of the children called daddy, “Are we going to die now?” The father answers, “No, there is a solution.” So he lights a fire behind them, and as that fire had burned enough, he backed the coach with the whole family onto the burned soil. “Now we are safe”, he said.

The message of Easter is all about how the wrath of God over sin is laid upon our Savior Jesus. After the fire of sin has burned, the cross on Calvary is the burned earth where we can find our safety even at the last judgment. By the resurrection of Jesus, God showed us that the burned earth now is the place of reconciliation, and that everyone is invited to find refuge there. Let us all take advantage of this gift of God during this Easter time."

Holy week - The cross of salvation

"The wood upon which He was set adrift under the storming wrath of God He fashions into the ship of our salvation. It is our cross too, but not a cross of punishment for us. Rather, He makes it the cross of salvation."

"The One who need not have been bound by chains and cords was bound by men who sought His death. The One who was the power of God, refused to let that power bring Him rescue. The One who had no fear of death became subject to death. The One who had no vices wrapped Himself in ours that He might free us from them. The One who is the triumphant King suffered His own skin to be nailed upon the stake as the trophy of His triumph over death. The One who hunted down death, allowed Himself to be devoured by it. He was pierced through that we might be made whole. The wood upon which He was set adrift under the storming wrath of God He fashions into the ship of our salvation. It is our cross too, but not a cross of punishment for us. Rather, He makes it the cross of salvation.

The One who was bound by the nails is bound that He might bind us to Himself through faith in Him. We, who might be bound to Him by force, are bound rather by His love for us; and that binding is the more powerful because it is His. Bound to Him by His passionate and bloody embrace, we no longer fear the bonds of death in our own lives.

Punishment cannot hold us, for He long ago took our punishment. Suffering cannot overwhelm us, because He suffered for us on the tree. Fear cannot defeat us, for there is nothing to fear that can harm us. The cross is the instrument of His death, and the source of our life. Come, blessed cross!"

Nästan 180 kristna hem och ett par kyrkor förstördes av muslimsk mobb i Lahore

PAKISTAN

"En mobb på omkring 3 000 muslimer brände den 9 mars minst 178 kristna hem och två kyrkor i Joseph Colony-området i Lahore efter anklagelser att Sawan Masih, en kristen renhållningsarbetare, hade fällt nedsättande kommentarer om profeten Muhammed.

Våldet började efter fredagsbönen den 8 mars när omkring 100 muslimer överöste Masihs hem med stenar och misshandlade hans gamle far. Efter att mobben samlats togs Masih till polishäktet och anklagades för hädelse enligt den så kallade sektion 295-C i den pakistanska strafflagen. Hundratals kristna flydde från området sent på kvällen av rädsla för sin säkerhet. På lördag återvände tusentals muslimer till området och attackerade två kyrkor samt hus och butiker som ägdes av kristna. Lokal polis fanns redan på plats i förebyggande syfte, men när människorna bad polisen om hjälp uppmanades de att skynda sig att fly eftersom polisen inte kunde försvara de kristna mot en så stor folkmassa. Så människorna lämnade sina hem och flydde dit de kunde. Den väldiga mobbens plundringar pågick i över fyra timmar och sedan brände de allt de såg. Inga kristna uppges ha skadats men deras egendom stals eller förstördes under räden. En av MKV:s partners berättade: ”Vi kom till platsen sent på kvällen och fortfarande brann många byggnader och röken täckte hela området.”

”De kristna vill inte återvända till sina brända hus eftersom de är skräckslagna”, sade en lokal kristen. ”Jag har ingenting kvar utom de kläder jag har på mig. Ingenting finns kvar i dessa förkolnade hus.” En lokal människorättsaktivist berättade: ”Invånarna i Joseph Colony hör till de fattigaste i Lahore och nu har många av dem förlorat allt – det är ytterst viktigt att regeringen uppfyller sina löften om kompensation. Det är samtidigt också uppmuntrande att vi har fått ta emot meddelanden och erbjudanden om stöd från muslimska vänner hela dagen. Det påminner oss om att vårt land ännu har en själ.”

Tusentals kristna i Lahore, Karachi och Islamabad protesterade mot våldet på söndag och anklagade polisen för att ha misslyckats att skydda de kristna i Joseph Colony. Samtidigt fördömde man landets hädelselagar. Fastän den pakistanska regeringen uppger att hädelselagarna kom till för att uppnå religiös harmoni genom likformighet, har hädelselagarna i praktiken blivit ett verktyg för personliga hämndåtgärder mot religiösa minoriteter. Enligt människorättsorganisationen Human Rights Watch har omkring 1 400 hädelsefall registrerats sedan lagen först infördes 1986. Minst 16 personer, bland dem flera kristna, väntar idag i Pakistan i dödscellen på att deras dödsdom för hädelse ska verkställas och 20 personer avtjänar livstidsstraff. Ifall Masih döms, kan han få en dödsdom.

MKV:s samarbetspartner dr Paul Bhatti, rådgivare till den pakistanska premiärministern i frågor som gäller relationer religioner emellan, har fördömt incidenten och kallat alla berörda myndigheter att ”trygga säkerheten för de kristna i Pakistan”.

KAZAKSTAN

Vi ber för situationen i detta land där staten verkar använda censur och andra kränkningar av religions- och trosfriheten som medel för att kontrollera samhället. I vad som verkar vara det första fallet i Kazakstan har en domstol befallt att religiös litteratur ska förstöras. Sammanlagt gavs order om att 121 böcker, som konfiskerats från baptisten Vjatjeslav Tjerkasov, skulle förstöras i den norra regionen Akmola. Bland böckerna fanns Biblar, Barnbiblar och andra böcker och skrifter om den kristna tron, huvudsakligen på kazakiska. Tjerkasov dömdes också till böter motsvarande en medelmånadslön. Vi ber för de troende att de får vishet och kraft att kämpa för sina grundläggande rättigheter och får leva ut sin tro.

Listen to former presidential candidate and diplomat Andrei Sannikov. He thanks for support, because two years ago he was in KGB-prison in Minsk, notorious since the time of Stalin's purges, still serving its purposes in dictatorial Belarus. He got support from Craig Kennedy, that expressed his hope "that I will soon be able to join you in Brussels Forum. It was extremely important to me and gave me a lot of strength", Sannikov says. --- I know what I'm saying, because by the time I went through four prison and three penal colonies.There is no justice in Belarus. ---

These people are fighting for our common values. I think the world is not doing enough to release them. ---

Dictators are very effective in cooperating with each other. Put pressure on Lukashenko, who helps the regime of Bashar al-Assad and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. ---

Try to help the Belarusian democratic movement, try to help the civil society, try to help the independent media, try to help the families of the repressed. We need this. ---

I said that the situation in Belarus is difficult, but I am an optimist. And you know why? In prison, and after release, I felt an unprecedented solidarity with us... (my shortage of Sannikov's words from the video)
