Prevent Myanmar (Burma) from returning to the dark days of isolation

Myanmar (Burma). Intercession for the persecuted Christian minority in the country.

"God is light, and in him is no darkness at all". (1 John 1:5 ESV)

- On April 2, 2012 there were cheering scenes outside the headquarters of Burma's National League for Democracy after the party declared its leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, had won a parliamentary seat in byelections. It was a milestone for the 1991 Nobel laureate who had spent much of the past 20 years under house arrest, blocked from involvement in the nation's politics.

In 2015, she led her National League for Democracy (NLD) to victory in Myanmar's first openly contested election in 25 years.

In November 2020 Myanmar's ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party had secured enough seats in parliament to form the next government. On the day the new parliament formed in November, was to a sit for the first time, the military arrested Aung San Suu Kyi along with many other political leaders./my summary

Following the coup on Monday 1, February 2021 Myanmar’s military declared a state of emergency for a year until a new election. Myanmar’s State Counsellor, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, along with President Win Myint and other National League for Democracy (NLD) leaders, were detained in a military raid. Monday’s coup, which reversed a decade of democratic transition following 50 years of military rule, has drawn criticism from all over the world. (ICC)
