Kazakhstan - Government's policies toward tougher control

"The end of 2015 has brought not much hope for the future for people in Kazakhstan. --- The most recent three months of 2015 demonstrated that the government’s policies are changing toward tougher control and that the prosecution of dissent begins to turn into repressions."

"On 8 October 2012, Vladimir Kozlov, the leader of the Alga! (Forward!) opposition party (unregistered) was sentenced to seven years and six months of imprisonment with confiscation of property. When, in mid-2011, a strike broke out in Zhanaozen, Alga!, under Kozlov's leadership, was the first to begin supplying drinking water and tents to the striking workers. He personally organised seminars for the strikers in order to maintain the peaceful nature of the protests, including avoidance of security service provocations."
