Aung San Suu Kyi received the third Shahbaz Bhatti Freedom Award

Nobel Prize Winner Aung San Suu Kyi received the third Shahbaz Bhatti Freedom Award (May 15, 2012).





Kjell-Magne Bondevik, FSF-Adviser and former Prime Minister of Norway, presented the award at a ceremony in Yangoon. Ms Suu Kyi expressed her gratitude for the award and thanked FSF for its important work.

The first Shahbaz Bhatti award was given posthumously to the assasinated Pakistani Minister of Minorities, Dr Shahbaz Bhatti. The second award was given to Dr Hany Hanna, Cairo, one of the leaders of the January 25 revolution in Egypt.

The Freedom Award was founded by First Step Forum to honour the legacy of the deceased Dr Bhatti for his work for freedom and democracy for which he paid with his life.
