Thankful for Jesus' Victory
"When their team wins, sports fans tend to claim the victory as if they had been the competitors. Really, however, only the athletes can claim the victory. At best, fans can take credit only for cheering and giving their team support.
Who gets the credit for the victory over sin and death? The credit goes to Jesus Christ and to him alone. He was delivered over to death for our sins. Because God charged our sins to him, he was put to death. Then God raised his Son to life to announce that he was pleased with his Son's sacrifice. God raised Jesus to life because he had, in fact, done everything necessary to rid the world of the guilt of sin. Jesus had gained the victory over hell.
This is the greatest reason for giving thanks to God. Jesus, true God and true man, took all our sin and rebellion and suffered the divine punishment which we deserved for them. His resurrection from the dead is sure proof that God accepted Jesus' sacrifice so that now we are free from sin’s guilt and death’s hold. The great victory of Jesus is ours.
Rejoice and give thanks for the victorious salvation which you have in Jesus!"
