"We do not look forward to the suffering that comes our way, but we must recognize that our suffering also results in real spiritual growth for us. We are shaped by the cross and die on it every day by contrition and repentance. What is the outcome for us? In that dying life is assured to us through the work of the Savior. The Apostle Paul speaks of this Christian growth in suffering: "We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us" (Rm 5:3-5). We who are dry, brittle, and lifeless find ourselves watered by suffering into lively advocates for the life of God given in Jesus Christ.

In the midst of trial and suffering Jesus never leaves us alone. How could He?"



Trials cause us to bloom

"God will not forsake His people. Even, and especially, in the midst of trial the Lord is near. The trial itself drives us into His arms. In Houston, we can have torrential rains and hurricanes caused by tropical weather patterns. After the soaking rains we had here in Houston over the month of September everything looks green. Lawns look better after the heat of summer which frazzles lawns and landscaping plants. But a few days after the rains, things sprout and bloom and grow. No one wants the tropical downpours. They can flood roads, delay traffic, leak into homes through aging roofs, and in extreme cases, cause homes and businesses to flood. Yet what a benefit follows the trials caused by torrential rains!

The trials sent to us by God work in the same way for us Christians. We do not look forward to the suffering that comes our way, but we must recognize that our suffering also results in real spiritual growth for us. He sends the holy angels to watch over us. God sent the holy angels to watch over Jacob who was afraid at the prospect of meeting his brother, Esau (Gn 32:1). We should not despair in the midst of trouble. The holy angels are with us. We should be all the more confident of God's care for us in the midst of great trouble, when we need it the most. He will never forsake us! Our trials will cause us to bloom."

Fokus - Gud verkar bland kristna afghaner i Finland i dag

- Intressant kväll med Miragha från Kristna Afghanföreningen och fantastiskt att så många afghaner kommit till tro i hela vårt land och att arbetet växer och bär frukt. Många har också bett i åratal för detta, i vår nejd och i andra delar av landet på orter där afghaner nu också får skolning i ledarskap och kristen tro. Kristna Afghanföreningen har verksamhet över hela landet och ordnar olika träffar på flera håll i landet, från norr till söder, för att mänskorna ska få komma samman och även få fördjupning och undervisning i den kristna tron. Ju flera som kommer till tro desto lättare blir det för dem alla att också öppet våga stå för sin tro och inte vara rädda för repressalier och förföljelse som också förekommer. Men korset följer med tron, sa också Miragha. Föreningen grundades 2012 med Dr Zar Nuri som ordförande och registrerades 2013 i Jakobstad.. I princip är det så att när en afghan blir kristen kan han inte återvända till Afghanistan, sa Miragha och han blir också utesluten av sina föräldrar, syskon och släktingar. Genom olika sociala media håller föreningen kontakt med sina medlemmar. Att döpa är viktigt, men sedan inlemmas de kristna i olika församlingar på resp. hemort och får undervisning av föreningen genom besök och på distans via olika media. Miragha betonade även betydelsen av det kärleksfulla bemötandet som man fått av finländare, vänfamiljer och kristna i vårt land och han såg det som Guds konkreta kärleksbevis. Miragha kallade föreningens missionsarbete (bland landsmän) för "Gudsprojekt" :) Föreningen har samarbete med en afghansk-kristen TV-kanal i Canada. I Jakobstad önskade man sig en bibelkurs eller liknande eftersom arbetet startade här. Fokusansvarige prästen Jockum Krokfors instämde och tyckte att det var bra ide som kunde genomföras med andra församlingar i staden. Från början har afghanerna gått till olika församlingar, ibland också till fokus. (Av hänsyn, men inte av rädsla, är informationen ganska allmänt hållen här.) Monica Hagström, lovsångsansvarig och aktiv inom TEHUS-verksamheten (för nyfinländska kvinnor och andra kvinnor i FC), berättade att det nu finns ett 40-tal kvinnor och barn med i verksamheten. En dubblering av antalet på ett fåtal år. Förebedjarna Gudrun Enkvist och Maria Fagerudd var förebedjare denna kväll och de bad även tillsammans med fokusprästen för Miragha och föreningens arbete. Kristian Östman med co ledde lovsången på ett värdigt sätt. Teamet såg också till att välsignelsen gick ut i sjungen form denna gång! Sången "Bara i Dig" och "Som en mäktig vind" talade starkt till mig. Henrik Hult var välkomnare och tog upp kollekten som ju gick till den Kristna Afghanföreningen och Sylvia Helena Hult var mig allmänt behjälplig :) Linda Björkskog hade hand om barnfokus och de lite äldre barnen (Tweenies) fick samlas med Tommy Nyman i en musikverkstad i ungdomsutrymmet.

Min inledning: Det är höst i Finland (i dag vackert och varmt!) och hösten är också lite vemodig. Sommaren är slut och löven faller av, träden avkläds. I Jes. 40:8 står: "Gräs torkar bort, blomster vissnar men vår Guds ord förblir i evighet." Guds ord består! Tänk vilken tröst! De skall alltid finnas där, de livgivande vattenkällorna som släcker vår törst. Gudsordet är trösten för många lidande, fängslade, sjuka osv. Många kan vittna om hur det memorerade Gudsordet har hållit dem vid liv och gett dem hopp i hopplösheten. Här tog jag fängslade kristna i Kina som exempel. I mörkret ger det (Ordet) mänskorna ljus och hopp, därför att det föder nytt liv. Guds ord föder oss på nytt. "Ni är ju födda på nytt, inte ur en förgänglig sådd utan ur en oförgänglig, Guds levande och bestående ord." (1 Petr. 1:23) Jesus är Ordet som blev kött (Joh. 1:14).

- Därför är det viktigt att läsa Guds Ord. Vi ska öppna vår Bibel dagligen. Det känns inte alltid lätt men det går lättare om man tex. har en bibelläsningsplan.

Fri bön och bönen Fader vår.

I övrigt gick kvällen enligt vanlig modell och vi kallade fram förebedjarna som bad för kvällens böneämnen. Kvällen avslutades med Herrens välsignelse sjungen. Nästa gång: bibelstudium (Gal. 3-6). Info från Gudrun Enkvist: Fasta och bön för Finland inkommande torsdag kl. 10-18 i FC. Kvällens kollekt gick till Kristna Afghanföreningen.

Good message - stunning words

"God creates the cure before the plague." Just as God created mankind only after He created the pathway of repentance (i.e., Yeshua is called the "Lamb slain from the foundation of the world": 1 Pet. 1:20, Eph. 1:4, Rev. 13:8), so purification from death and the nullification of the curse was also foreseen and provided by the cross of the Messiah. Yeshua is the antidote to the venom delivered through the serpent's bite (John 3:14-15). "For as in Adam all die, so also in Messiah shall all be made alive" (1 Cor. 15:22). The "new seed" of life given to us in Yeshua makes us into a "new creation" (בְּרִיאָה חֲדָשָׁה) that fully restores the defaced image of God within us: "Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven" (1 Cor. 15:49).

ECI: EP Budgetary Committee to freeze EU funding to PA

ECI welcomes EP Budgetary Committee vote to freeze EU funding to PA until incitement to hatred is removed from school textbooks

Brussels, October 1st, 2018 – "The European Coalition for Israel welcomes the recent vote by the European Parliament’s Budgetary Committee to freeze more than 15 million Euros in funding to the Palestinian Authority if they do not remove incitement to hatred from their school textbooks. The funds will be released when the Palestinian Authority has committed to reform its school curriculum and textbooks and bring them into line with UNESCO standards for peace and tolerance in school education.

The vote, which will need to be confirmed by the plenary session of the European Parliament later this month, comes after members of the committee have been presented with numerous examples of depictions of violence, hate speech and glorification of jihad and martyrdom in the new Palestinian school curriculum which was introduced last autumn. The radicalization of the school curriculum has already led to an international review by the donor countries, and last month Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo stated that “as long Palestinian schools are named to glorify terrorism, Belgium can no longer cooperate with the Palestinian Education Ministry and will not contribute to budgets for the construction of schools”.

However, the European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU institution which is responsible for the distribution and oversight of funds to the Palestinian Authority, has kept a low profile.

The official EEAS position is that the glorification of violence and martyrdom in Palestinian school textbooks and payments to convicted terrorists do not amount to institutionalized incitement or radicalization. This position was reaffirmed when ECI last met with EEAS despite the presentation of numerous pieces of evidence and sample copies of schoolbooks at the meeting. Now the pressure for reform is mounting on EEAS both from the European Parliament and from EU member state governments.

In a statement on Monday, ECI Founding Director Tomas Sandell welcomed the EP committee vote to freeze funding but he thinks that it may be “too little too late”.

“As the members of the European Parliament prepare for new elections in less than eight months, they can be assured that the on-going mismanagement of EU funds will become a major theme in the election campaigns. If the European Parliament is to regain its moral authority with the EU electorate, it will have to show a genuine will to reform throughout the next five-year term and not only in the closing months of the five-year electoral cycle”, Sandell said.

He concluded that “very little has been done to reform EU aid to the Palestinian Authority over the last four years, although Michael Theurer, the Chairman of the previous EP Budgetary Committee from 2009-2014, in an opinion editorial just weeks before the last elections admitted ‘wide spread mismanagement of EU-funds to the Palestinian Authority’ and concluded that the EU needs to set clear conditions for aid”.

ECI will continue to monitor the review process of Palestinian school textbooks by the donor countries and make sure that EU funding of the Palestinian Authority is put high on the agenda in the upcoming European Parliament election campaigns. The next elections to the European Parliament will be held between May 23rd and 26th, 2019."
